Several Nonnewaug High School students were injured following a crash in Southbury on Wednesday that involved a Region 14 school bus, officials say.

Police say just before 2:30 p.m., a bus with students on board was traveling on Southford Road near Jeremy Swamp Road when it was struck by a vehicle driven by Richard Estey. The impact of the crash caused the bus to hit a third vehicle that was traveling on Southford Road

Officials say two students were ejected from the bus.

Superintendent Brian Murphy says some of the students were seriously injured and taken to Waterbury and St. Mary's Hospitals. He says the crash involved students from Prospect and Beacon Falls.

Murphy says the bus driver was also hospitalized out of an abundance of caution.

Counseling services will be available at the school on Thursday morning, according to Murphy.

Estey was charged with driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control signal.

He has been released on bond.

Route 67 remains closed at Community House Road due to the crash, the Connecticut Department of Transportation says.
