The students at P.S. 100 Isaac Clason Elementary School took action to help improve their neighborhood after they noticed a ton of litter.
As part of a class project the kids led an initiative calling for more public trash receptacles, highlighting the need for cleaner streets. "We saw a lot of garbage on the ground during our science project," one student explained. "We noticed people throwing trash everywhere, and we thought if there were trash cans, our community could be cleaner." Their voices were heard.
New York City Department of Sanitation trash baskets have now been installed along Lafayette Avenue, between Taylor and Thieriot Avenues—helping keep the neighborhood cleaner for everyone. Council Member Amanda Farías was part of the celebration.
