The parents of a Stamford toddler who was found buried at Cummings Park were sentenced Tuesday in connection to his death.

Edgar Ismalej-Gomez received a 18-year sentence. Iris Rivera-Santos was given 20 years.

Both pleaded guilty in the death of their 2-year-old son, Liam.

Police discovered Liam's body in a shallow grave at the park on Jan. 2, 2023. Officials said Liam had suffered from blunt force trauma to his head and he had several bruises on his body.

An earlier plea offer of 16 years for both was rejected by a judge as too lenient.
