The Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education has announced the resignation of Interim Chancellor O. John Maduko following a complaint and pending investigation.

The board confirmed it was made aware of Dr. Maduko’s resignation and has taken steps to ensure continuity of leadership during the transition period.

General Counsel Karen Buffkin will serve in an acting leadership role while the board moves forward with its next steps. A national search for a permanent chancellor is expected to begin later this year.

In a statement, board leadership emphasized the importance of stability across Connecticut’s public higher education system during the transition:

“The Board of Regents has made me aware of the resignation of Chancellor O. John Maduko.

Connecticut public colleges and universities are critical engines of opportunity for our students and our state, and my focus remains on ensuring those institutions remain strong and steady during this transition. I appreciate the Board’s leadership in taking prompt steps to maintain stability and appointing acting leadership. That is important for students, faculty, staff, and the public’s confidence in these institutions. I have confidence the Board will continue handling this matter responsibly and in accordance with appropriate processes.

Because this is a personnel matter, it would be inappropriate to comment further. What I can say is that accountability, sound governance, and institutional integrity are essential, and I expect those principles to guide this process.”

The board has stated it will not provide additional details due to the matter being a personnel issue.
