A person was stabbed in Bethel Tuesday morning, police say.

Police were called to 208 Greenwood Ave. at 9:30 a.m. for a reported stabbing.

They say a 69-year-old man was stabbed at least twice, one in the upper back and once in the wrist. He was taken to Danbury Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Officers were told the suspect had a duffle bag and walked across the street toward Dolan's Plaza at 211 Greenwood Ave. They then found the suspect, 39-year-old Sean S. Vota of Northport, New York. Vota was taken into custody without incident.

Police say charges are pending and there is no threat to the public.

They say they are also grateful for the quick actions of witnesses. One of them included an off-duty Stamford officer who followed Vota and relayed critical information to dispatchers and officers on scene.

It's not clear what caused Vota to stab the man. It's not known if the stabbing occurred in the parking lot or in one of the businesses in the plaza.
