Republican candidate for governor Erin Stewart made her first campaign appearance Tuesday since questions emerged about her spending during her time as mayor of New Britain.
The Hartford Courant reports that Stewart spent up to 200,000 dollars on her city‑issued credit card for personal items.
At her rally in New Britain Tuesday night, Stewart said she has not seen any of the records in question and has promised to respond to the allegations after this weekend’s Republican convention.
"I want you to know that I am in the process of personally engaging a team to obtain all of these records myself and will address everything once I have the facts in front of me – because that's what responsible leadership looks like,” said Stewart.
State republicans will meet on May 15-16 to decide who will get their party's endorsement ahead of the primary race in August.
