Two popular Fairfield businesses are joining forces to help pets find their forever homes.

Elicit Brewing Co. and Super Duper Weenie have tapped the keg on their newest creation: a hot dog bun-infused IPA.

A portion of proceeds from Thursday night's release event went to Stamford's Project Precious Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to animal rescue.

"Buns and grain, they're not that different," says Adam Calderone, head brewer at Elicit. "You're not going to taste a bad, off taste. It's just going to add some fun elements to it."

Calderone crafted the idea alongside Gary Zemola, owner of Super Duper Weenie.

"It's all a big part of keeping this community going and breathing," says Zemola. "We're all one here, so why not support each other?"

Bruno Marini, CEO of Eli's Restaurant Group, says Project Precious Rescue relies solely on donations.

"No one survives without their community," Marini says. "When a neighbor is willing to participate with you on that, it just makes the whole world right."
