Roger Sherman: A key figure in America's revolutionary story

He also helped to shape Congress as we know it today.
His story is being told at the Sherman Historical Society and Museum as the town celebrates America's 250th anniversary.
The name of the exhibit is "Roger Sherman, a key figure in America's Revolutionary Story," and it covers five areas where people can learn about all the different parts of his life - room by room.
Office coordinator Doris Tomaselli says Roger Sherman was a humble man, "but he was a very instrumental man for the revolution."
Historian John Cilio says Roger Sherman is known for signing four very important documents for the founding of the nation.
"But his first national act is actually part of a team of 13 people to tell the King of England, 'Don't tax us domestically,' which is what the Stamp Act was about," he says.
First SelectmanDon Lowe, says the story of Sherman can not be told enough times.
"For me, it's been eye opening to learn the impact that Roger Sherman had on this country, that this country may not even have been formed had it not been for Roger Sherman," he says.
The town of Sherman was named after Roger Sherman just nine years after he died.
Cilio adds it is "because Roger Sherman was such an honorable man," and "It's a town that people want to live up to."
The exhibit will run for five Saturdays beginning on June 12. Each afternoon will have a different guest speaker.
While visiting Sherman you can grab a locally roasted coffee at Sacred Grounds or grab breakfast or lunch and a home made Pie at American Pie.
The town also has a wonderful winery called White Silo.
And you can also "get a little of a lot" at a wonderful shop called the Old Store.
If you are a nature seeker or a hiker, there are a lot of preserves and trails, there too.
