A small Beechcraft aircraft crashed into the perimeter fence at Danbury Airport Thursday morning after the pilot was unable to gain proper lift during takeoff, airport officials said.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. as the plane attempted to depart from the runway. Officials said the aircraft failed to rotate at the moment when a plane lifts its nose to become airborne, causing it to continue forward and strike the fence adjacent to Backus Avenue.

Danbury Police and Fire crews responded and assisted with removing the aircraft from the fence line, according to airport officials. The plane was then transported back onto airport grounds for inspection as investigators work to determine what went wrong during takeoff.

Only the pilot was on board, and no injuries were reported.
