There was a big turnout in Bridgeport Saturday for a mental health walk at Seaside Park.

The Monique Sisters Foundation organized the event, which put a spotlight on the importance of mental health education.

"Our goal is to bring awareness, to help people know they are not alone, that they have a community, that they have people who will help and that are here to help them with anything that they're going through," said Jimeisha Mullen, of the Monique Sisters Foundation.

"So my mission is awareness, prevention and empowerment, ultimately, because no one should go through this stuff alone," said Maria Ruiz, of the Sound Mind Foundation.

"Our mission is to provide adequate care to the disabled, the elderly, anyone who needs care inside of their home," said Courtney Horton, of T & C Caring Hands.

Organizers say the inaugural event was a big success, built around a simple message of community, healing and connection.
