Summer is still 11 days away, but we will get a sample of some July-like heat and humidity on Thursday. High temperatures will climb into the lower 90s, but with the humidity, it will feel more like 95-100 degrees during the day on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties starting at noontime Thursday.

With such extreme conditions, heat illnesses can strike. Take steps to stay cool and healthy during this weather, including staying out of the direct sun. Take breaks when working outdoors. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and also make sure the pets have water and cooler conditions.

Showers and thunderstorms are also in the forecast starting late this afternoon. A warm front will move through the area and bring more clouds and higher humidity. There may be a few showers later in the afternoon and some thunderstorms at night.

Thunderstorms are also likely with the heating of the day on Thursday afternoon and could become more widespread on Thursday night. These storms have the potential to bring damaging winds to parts of the tri-state area. Stay with News 12 Connecticut for more details.

The heat will slowly come down a touch for the weekend, but it will still be quite hot with temperatures still climbing into the upper 80s. Cooler weather returns by the middle of next week.
