Bear Path Elementary School in Hamden was targeted by a swatting incident on Friday, Superintendent Gary Highsmith says.

Highsmith says around 9:30 a.m., officials received a message from the See Something Alert System that a threat was made to the school.

He says that although a sixth-grade promotion ceremony was scheduled to take place, students and staff were evacuated. Due to the threat and the heat, students were picked up by buses and brought to another location so they would not be outside.

Hamden and New Haven police officers responded and swept the interior and exterior of the building.

Police gave an all-clear to re-enter around 10:45 a.m.

Friday's incident is one of many that occurred this week throughout the state.
