State officials have some important reminders on firework safety ahead of the fourth of July holiday weekend.
FireSafeCT says Connecticut law allows the use of sparklers and fountains, only to be bought or used by those 16 years or older.

They say there is a very real risk of property damage or injury like burns, or in extreme cases, death.
"Our message is plain. If it goes boom or leaves the ground, it is illegal,” said Chief Rodney Barco with the Hartford Fire Department. “We want everyone from our community to have a good time and we want to ensure that we do it legally and safely."
Officials say residents should always be aware of fire danger indoors and outdoors.
In dry conditions, small sparks can very quickly lead to disaster.
They say the safest way to celebrate is to leave it to the professionals and attend a local fireworks display, or opt for glow sticks.
