Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash in Danbury Monday, including a Bridgeport police officer, Danbury police say.

Officer Cooper "Coop" Whiteside, a 38-year-old Danbury resident, and 34-year-old Brittany Islami, of New Milford, were killed in the crash on Sugar Hollow Road near the Ridgefield town line.

Police responded at 2:45 a.m. for a crash involving a car and motorcycle. Police found a Jeep Compass with extensive front-end damage and a Harley Davidson motorcycle lying in the road and in front of the vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep was removed from the vehicle and taken to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries.

Whiteside and Islami both died at the scene.

Police say the motorcycle was traveling south on Sugar Hollow Road and the Jeep was traveling north when the collision occurred.

Bridgeport police say Whiteside had been an officer since July 2024.

The West Redding Volunteer Fire Department also posted on social media that Whiteside served as a firefighter, EMT, lieutenant, training captain and vice president. He was previously a member of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company.
