When it comes to good old-fashioned fun, nothing beats a day on the farm.

Bishop's Orchards in Guilford began in 1871.
Sarah Bishop Dellaventura is co-CEO.

“My great-great-great-grandfather started it, as I am the sixth generation. We have diversified from what started as a dairy farm, and we sold ice blocks for people’s ice boxes to a small apple orchard. And then we’ve diversified into large tree fruits and vegetables. And then now we have a large farm market...”

And plenty of pick your own.
Garrett Fernstrom was at the farm enjoying the afternoon picking blueberries.

“It just feels peaceful, like, you know, just being out here, you know, lackadaisical, picking the blueberries and, you know, filling up a nice bucket and then going home and enjoying these.”

Pick-your-own begins in June with strawberries and continues with peaches, apples, pumpkins and more.

But there are also other activities that fit in with the farm theme that make it more of a destination.

Sarah Bishop Dellaventura says the list of fun is a long one.

“Our main activity area that’s open all the way from July through October has a mega slide and a corn pit, jump pads. We have our Apple Train and a bunch of other climbing structures and fun things for kids to do, and families of all ages are welcome. In the summer, we have our Construction Tyme. So we have 20 mini-excavators that are powered that kids can dig and grab logs with and whatnot.”

And no visit to the farm would be complete without a sweet treat.

The creamery has a huge following on social media, with monthly specials they say are out of this world.

After all, what’s a better way to wrap up a fun-filled day at the farm than with a slice of fresh apple pie topped with a scoop of ice cream?
