Milford police set the record straight on Flock cameras Tuesday as they continue to spark debate and concern over who can access the data they collect.
Officials say similar to other systems they use, there is a user login and password that anyone who has been trained in licenses plate readers have the authority to use. They add that users are held accountable for everything done in the system.
"No system is perfect, but we are continuously at Flock seeking to improve our compliance features," says Dan Haley, chief legal officer at Flock.
As News 12 has reported, some state lawmakers are calling for municipalities to stop putting up the cameras.
State Sen. Bob Duff has said the pause is necessary for legislators to take a closer look at how the cameras collect and distribute data. The goal he says is to find a balance between privacy and public safety.
Milford police have previously said that the technology helped them make an arrest in a deadly home invasion that occurred in June.
