Lamont expands Sales Tax-Free Week, cut sales tax on school supplies
As of July 1, there will be no sales tax applied to items including pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, paper, folders, binders and lunch boxes. Lamont also announced the state's annual Sales Tax-Free Week will expand to exempt more purchases.

The new state budget will eliminate sales tax on non-electronic school supplies, Gov. Ned Lamont announced Wednesday.
As of July 1, there will be no sales tax applied to items including pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, paper, folders, binders and lunch boxes. Lamont says this tax exemption is expected to save people nearly $6 million per year.
Lamont also announced the state's annual Sales Tax-Free Week will expand to exempt more purchases. This year, the weeklong tax holiday will apply to the purchase of most clothes and footwear priced under $300, an increase from prior years amount of $100.
Tax-Free Week will run from Aug. 16 through Aug. 22.
