A 73-year-old New York City man was struck and killed by a car in Torrington, according to the Torrington Police Department.

The crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday near 1902 Main St.

Authorities say a 54-year-old man was driving a 2019 Subaru eastbound on Main Street when he struck Joel Leyden. The 73-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver, Carlos Giotto, of Torrington, stayed at the crash site and has been cooperating with the investigation.

No charges have been filed as of Friday evening.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the Torrington Police Department at 860-489-2000.
