Westport is taking a closer look at its early voting results from Connecticut's recent primary election after being randomly selected for a state audit.

Election officials reviewed the results as part of Connecticut's post-election audit process.

Officials emphasized the review was not triggered by concerns about the outcome and was not a recount.

"We have safety protocols in all of our elections; before, during, and after," says an election official. "This is one of the safety protocols to ensure the results are consistent with what the tabulator is reading, so that the public can have a high degree of confidence in the results that we publish."

State officials say the audits are designed to verify that voting equipment accurately recorded and reported ballots cast by voters.

Officials stressed the process is an audit, not a recount.
