Sen. Richard Blumenthal is calling for answers after increased reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity throughout Connecticut.

Stories of ICE sightings flooded western Connecticut over the past several days. Advocacy group Stamford Norwalk United with Immigrants told News 12 this week that at least 40 people have been detained in Danbury, Bridgeport and Stamford.

“What's happening now in the streets of Connecticut is repeating what we've seen in Minnesota, Illinois, California -- brutality and barbarity against a lot of people who have no criminal record,” he said.

Other public officials like Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons have also addressed the reports.

“I continue to be horrified by the cruelty of these actions. Our city is not made safer when people are randomly removed from our streets and their rights are violated,” she said in a post on Facebook. “The City of Stamford unequivocally remains an inclusive and welcoming city for all immigrants, and we stand with our immigrant community as we continue to navigate these ongoing challenges.”
