Darien man arrested after armed robbery at Exxon gas station

A 55-year-old Darien man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at an Exxon gas station on Post Road.
Darien police dispatchers were contacted around 12:30 p.m. Sept. 15 by an employee at the Exxon station at 1358 Post Road who reported an armed robbery that had just occurred.
Police identified the suspect as Jason D. Mann, 55, of Darien.
Police said Mann brandished a handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes. He fled with more than $3,000 and 20 packs of cigarettes.
Mann reportedly left the area on a small e-bike, heading westbound on Post Road. Responding officers were unable to locate him.
Using surveillance camera footage from the area, officers obtained descriptions of Mann and the e-bike, police said.
Around 1:15 a.m. Sept. 17, a Darien officer observed a vehicle on Post Road near Corbin Drive with an equipment violation. After running the vehicle's license plate, officers learned that the registered owner had an active arrest warrant out of Derby, Connecticut, police said.
Police say the officer conducted a traffic stop and observed drug paraphernalia and improperly packaged medication. As officers took Mann into custody, they found clothing and footwear that matched the description of the suspect in the robbery two days earlier.
Detectives were notified and obtained search warrants for the vehicle and Mann's residence. The warrants were executed Sept. 17, and detectives located an e-bike, firearm and clothing that matched items used in the robbery.
Detectives then applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Mann.
The investigation determined that Mann had parked his pickup truck near the robbery location with the e-bike secured in the truck bed, according to police. Mann removed the e-bike, used it during the robbery, then returned to the truck with the e-bike, placed it back in the truck, covered it and fled the area, police said.
Mann was transported to Stamford Superior Court on the morning of Sept. 18, where he was held on $225,000 bond.
He faces charges of robbery, larceny, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, failure to keep a narcotic in its original container and possession of a controlled substance.
