Rainfall & Flash Flooding: Rain picks up this morning and will be on and off through the day. Expect some heavy and steady rain for the morning and then again at night. Another 1" to 3" of rain could fall, with isolated areas that see more than 3."
Flash flooding is a concern, particularly east of the Garden State Parkway and across the coastal plain but also will have to watch certain areas of Northern and Central New Jersey through Monday morning.
Coastal Flooding: Tidal flooding will worsen this morning at high tide times. The exact severity depends heavily on wind direction, which looks to be primarily out of the north this morning. Coastal flood warnings will stay in effect through the first part of Sunday.
Beach erosion: The constant wave action over the last few days has already eaten away at parts of the Jersey shoreline. Sand displacement and damage to dunes will likely continue through the morning hours before the water begins to recede.
Winds & power outages: Coastal areas will endure sustained winds around 30 mph, with gusts reaching 55 mph at least through noon time Sunday. Isolated higher gusts are possible closer to the beaches. Inland regions will see winds near 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Scattered power outages are likely.
Timing & impact windows:
Sunday: Expect rounds of heavy rain bands, flash flooding, coastal flooding and strong wind.
Sunday night: Conditions slightly improve, with the winds lowering, but rain still sticking around.
Monday: A final wave of rain looks to move through during the morning hours before eventually moving out of the area.
Peak Hazards: Beach erosion will be continuous throughout the storm, while coastal flooding will peak during high tide cycles.
