Fairfield begins construction on detention basin to reduce Rooster River flooding

Fairfield officials say they have reached a milestone to reduce flooding along the Rooster River.
They say the first two phases of flood mitigation projects in the Rooster River corridor began this week at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course and Tunxis Hill Park.
Construction started on Sept. 28 on the detention basin site at the golf course. Officials say the basins will be completed with some functional flood mitigation by the end of the year and be fully completed by the spring.
They stress that project is highly weather dependent.
Surveyors have also begun construction staking at the second basin location at Tunxis Hill Park.
