Connecticut Attorney General William Tong announced an $8 million settlement with pharmaceutical company Mylan over allegations that it illegally inflated prices for EpiPens.
The state Attorney General's Office says Mylan violated state antitrust and consumer protection laws and will provide Connecticut with 10,000 free EpiPens in the form of 5,000 two-packs to expand equitable access to the lifesaving medication.
In 2016, Mylan faced widespread criticism after a 400% price increase, causing congressional hearings, a Federal Trade Commission investigation, and class action and competitor lawsuits.
According to complaints, Mylan entered into agreements that delayed the introduction of lower-cost generic competitors, allowing it to raise prices significantly.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health is supporting the distribution of the 10,000 free EpiPens to 30 Federally Qualified Health Centers across the state.
As part of the settlement, Mylan denies any wrongdoing.
