A family's call for justice in a shooting that killed a Bridgeport father is now making its way to Washington, D.C.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal met with the grieving family of Nelson Manuel Batista on Saturday.
Batista was shot and killed on Oct. 12 in what police say was a deadly road rage incident.
Blumenthal said he plans to share the family's story on the floor of the U.S. Senate and call for action to make streets safer.
"Nelson's passing reminds us about the importance of stopping gun violence," Blumenthal said.
The community should be sad about this because it could have happened to anyone," said Wisleidis Cruz, Batista's sister.
Police arrested 57-year-old Jorge Luis Oritz in connection with Batista's killing.
Blumenthal and the Batista family added that their fight for justice and change is just getting started.
