The United Nations has made its way to Norwalk in the form of a flag.
City officials and residents gathered in front of Norwalk's City Hall on Monday to witness the flag raising.
Norwalk Mayor Barbara Smyth read a proclamation, with one part of it highlighting how the city is home to diverse cultures and people from many nations.
"At a time of such divisiveness, I think it's so important that we remember the mission of the United Nations and that we are all in this together," Smyth said.
The flag raising is done in collaboration with the Southwestern Connecticut Chapter of the United Nations Association (UNA). They also raise the UN flag in Westport and Weston.
"We're getting more and more participation this year. And the whole purpose of our association is to make people more aware of what the United Nations does, and that it's also part of the community. It's not just some foreign body," said Derick DeMarche, UNA Liaison.
The flag will remain at Norwalk City Hall through the end of the week.
