One person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 15 in Orange, according to Connecticut State Police.
Troopers responded to the southbound side of Route 15 near Exit 42B at about 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed one vehicle was traveling in the right lane while another was traveling alongside it in the left lane.
For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle in the left lane moved into the right lane and struck the other vehicle.
Following the collision, both cars left the roadway, crossed the right shoulder and crashed through a metal-beam guardrail, state police said.
Troopers said one of the vehicles then struck a highway sign support post before both vehicles came to rest on an embankment along the shoulder.
The driver of one vehicle was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital with injuries. The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both vehicles were removed from the area by Megill's Towing.
State police said the deceased driver's next of kin have been notified.
The crash remains under investigation.
