A 46-year-old man died after a scooter crash in the city early Wednesday morning.
Norwalk Police Chief James Walsh says Christopher Moorer was riding a stand-up electric scooter down West Avenue around 4 a.m. when he was struck and killed by a car that was trying to turn onto Elm Street.
Moorer was rushed to Norwalk Hospital, where police say he died from his injuries.
"It's a horrible tragedy," Tucker Dennis, of New Canaan, says. "It's very sad."
Walsh says the driver of the car stayed on the scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
"We're scouring videos and conducting interviews with the operator of the car," Walsh says, "to determine what occurred."
Since the summer, police say they've seen an increase in e-bikes and e-scooters on city streets.
Walsh says traffic enforcement is doing everything it can to keep people safe, but drivers and riders need to do their part too.
"When you're driving these things, especially at night, ensure that you're wearing some sort of visible clothing, you're properly illuminated, and you're wearing headgear," Walsh says. "Because you're in a very vulnerable position driving in traffic."
It's still an active investigation.
