Three people are hospitalized, and four dogs died in a Bridgeport apartment fire.
The fire started Wednesday at an apartment above a convenience store near the 900 block of Maplewood Avenue around 3 a.m.
Officials say five people were inside of the apartment at the time of the fire and three of them were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say two people inside the building suffered burns and one other person suffered from smoke inhalation.
The convenience store below and a barber shop connected to the store also sustained smoke and water damage.
One of the residents who lives inside the building, Brian Savage, tells News 12 everyone who was inside helped to rescue their roommate who has MS and uses a wheelchair.
Savage was too shaken up to speak on camera, but he says he lost 4 dogs in the fire and only one managed to escape.
The American Red Cross is working to help people displaced as a result of the fire.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of fire.
