67th annual Strawberry Festival underway in Mattituck

The 67th annual Strawberry Festival in Mattituck is this weekend.
The event features all things strawberry and runs through Sunday. There are strawberry shortcake pastries, chocolate dipped strawberries, cup cakes, cookies and daiquiris and a lot more.
"We are a farming community out here in the North Fork. The festival started in the 1950s and we decided we wanted to do it around June, the time when you get the fresh strawberries out here on the North Fork. Quite frankly, who doesn't love a strawberry?" says Mike O'Donnell, of the Mattituck Lions.
Along with all the sweet strawberry desserts, there is a midway with thrilling rides, a crafts fair and live music all weekend long. And, of course, royalty will be on hand in the form of the Strawberry Queen who will preside over the festivities.

"I do love wearing a gown and all that, but it is really about the community service. I love giving back to the community," says Strawberry Queen Ava Grace Sannino.
Giving back is really the heart and soul of the Mattituck Lion's Strawberry Festival. Proceeds from the event help stock food pantries, aid families in need and Lions, known as the Knights of the Blind, support the Guide Dog Foundation just to name a few of their charities
The festival is held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
