A 71-year-old man died days after being assaulted during a road rage incident in Stamford, police say.
He was identified as Michael Frank Gentile, of Stamford.
Emmanuel Matias, 25, is charged with second-degree assault of an elderly person and was arraigned Thursday.
The prosecutor stated Thursday that charges may be upgraded due to the victim's serious injuries.
Police did not say if additional charges would be filed against Matias.
Matias is accused of assaulting Gentile Wednesday during a road rage incident that led to a fight.
Police say the two men were involved in a minor traffic accident when witnesses reported Matias and a passenger then got out of the car to yell at Gentile and bang on the truck's door, which he eventually opened.
Officials say they got into an argument and during the course of that argument, Matias punched Gentile causing him to fall to the ground and he went unconscious.
Police say he hit his head when he fell.
Police arrested Matias after responding to Cold Spring Road near the Long Ridge Road intersection around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
First responders rushed Gentile to Stamford Hospital where he died Thursday night.
