A Bridgeport woman and her son are facing homelessness once again after a social worker helped place them in temporary housing.
Phyllis Spinelli, 79, and her son Michael, 56, consider themselves lucky to have a roof over their heads at the Sunnyside Inn, in the North End of Bridgeport.
Until a couple of days ago, both say they were sleeping in covered bus stop on Huntington Turnpike until somebody took a video that ended up on social media and got the attention of a state social worker, who put them up for a couple of weeks in the low-cost motel.
However, Phyllis Spinelli says she will be right back out on the street when the emergency housing runs out on Nov. 19.
Her story raises concerns over the growing number of homeless Bridgeport seniors — which takes on a whole new dimension as the cold weather sets in.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help out the family.
