80 animals, including geese and turkeys, rescued from Fairfield home

More than 80 animals were rescued from a home Saturday by Fairfield Police and Animal Control.
Police say they were notified of a possible animal cruelty situation at a home on Churchill Street by members of the Fairfield Fire Department, who were assisting the resident of the home following a medical emergency.
When officers arrived, they found the home “in a state of squalor with animal waste throughout. Inside the home, officers located over 80 animals, including chickens, cats, geese, turkeys and ducks.”
Animal control authorities from Westport, Bridgeport, and Trumbull assisted in rescuing the animals.
Police believe the conditions were connected to a hoarding situation. The resident was transported to an area hospital for treatment for their medical conditions.
An animal cruelty investigation is pending.
