A 9/11 hero from Bridgeport is in critical condition following a car crash in Ohio.
Keith Ward, 60, is at University Hospital in Cleveland after police say he somehow lost control of his minivan and crashed into a cement wall off I-80. He was airlifted to the hospital, where he is in intensive care.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal honored Ward in 2017 for helping search for survivors at ground zero.
Ward, a construction worker, went to ground zero as part of a rescue effort organized by a local construction company. He was also honored several years ago for being a good Samaritan when he rushed into a burning home to save nine family members.
His fiancée, Latrice Williams, was also in the crash.
His family says they're trying to raise money to transport him to a hospital in Connecticut via long-distance ambulance, which they say is not covered by insurance, so that he can recover near his family.
