The Northfield Fire Company is pleading with drivers to slow down and move over for law enforcement cars and Department of Transportation workers after a close call on Route 8 on Wednesday.
Police say a car driving on the northbound of Route 8 in Litchfield veered off the left lane and crashed into a DOT truck.
The DOT worker was not inside the truck at the time of the crash.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Police issued the driver an infraction for failure to maintain proper lane.
“Luckily no injuries this time but it’s a near miss. Imagine hearing the call that a loved one won’t come home due to a driver that didn’t follow the rules of the road,” Northfield Fire Company wrote on Facebook.
The plea comes just days after a DOT worker was fatally struck while working on I-91 in Wallingford and after a state trooper was hit and killed during a traffic stop on I-84 in Southington in May.
The fire company said drivers should always move over for DOT, wreckers, first responders, police officers or anyone else pulled over.
