The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says in the first week of May emergency room visits for allergies and asthma has more than doubled in the Bronx and city.
With the increase in allergies, experts say people suffering from asthma also see an increase in symptoms. People with asthma are urged to try to avoid things that can trigger the condition. It is also recommended to use long-term asthma medication and keep up doctor visits.
In the past week, the sale of over-the-counter allergy medicine has also doubled.
