The anti-poverty agency Alliance announced today that a new child care center is coming to the P.T. Barnum Apartments.
Dr. Monette Ferguson, who heads the nonprofit, said that it feels great to bring such an important resource to Black Rock, especially as so many mothers are now trying to get back to work.
Ferguson made the announcement at a family day event at the apartments. It featured everything from food and fun to free COVID-19 vaccines.
"Today is important and this child care center is important because we are in a recovery phase from COVID, and though the delta variant has thrown us a curve ball, folks really need to get back to work and get back in the swing of things," Ferguson said.
"This new center opened by Alliance is going to mean vastly enhanced futures for the kids through day care, but also a lot of resources for parents," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
Ferguson said the new facility will open at the Gary Crook Center on Bostwick Avenue in the fall.
