Bomb detection is just one of the areas police K-9 units were focusing on in Trumbull.
Units from across the state came to a vacant building donated for training.
The dogs and handlers worked on tracking, sniffing out narcotics and explosives detection.
Trainers say they jump at the opportunity to work in vacant buildings like the one they used.
"Doing the narcotics searching, explosive detection, we're able to duplicate real world threats and put them into operational settings in these environments here," said head trainer Frank Reda.
Officials say that K-9 units are constantly training, racking up thousands of hours of instruction.
