A Stamford woman says she tried just about every way to lose weight and finally found something that works.
Deb Smith says almost two decades ago she weighed over 300 pounds.
In 2007, Smith underwent gastric bypass surgery and lost 150 pounds. But over a year later, she gained more than half of it back.
Late in 2020 she was referred to Dr. Maria Cecilia Asnis, the director of the Medical Weight Loss Program at Stamford Health. Smith was put on a robust nutrition plan and regular exercise.
With medications like Ozempic, typically used to treat Type 2 diabetes, Smith has improved her health and her look.
"Her waist circumference, she's lost over 12 inches. Her sugar has completely normalized. We've been able to take her off one of her blood pressure medications," said Dr. Asnis.
Smith says she is amazed.
"I would not be here today, this healthy, this happy, down to a size four, which I still can't believe, and cry in the dressing room when I try on clothes. It's a new life. I have so much energy. I go out dancing. It's just a whole new world for me," Smith said.
The 65-year-old has now lost 110 pounds in the last year.
Smith says she couldn't have done it without the support of her doctors.
