A dog was injured in Seymour after it was attacked by another dog whose owner died while on a walk, according to a Facebook post from Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates.

The incident began Thursday morning when a person was walking their dog on Wakely Avenue and suffered a medical emergency and died. The dog, which had been leashed, became unleashed and stayed near its owner.

The organization says a short time later, a resident and her 3-year-old French bulldog named Squiggy walked by the scene. They say while the woman called for help, the dog attacked Squiggy, causing severe and life-altering injuries.

Animal Control and police quickly responded.

Squiggy was taken to VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton to receive emergency care. Desmond's Army says he will require surgery, including the amputation of a front leg.

Donations can be made to the hospital. People are asked to specifically mention the donation is for Squiggy.
