A mother and son from Ansonia were arraigned Wednesday in what police say was a murder-for-hire plot that would have netted the pair $20,000.Police say Kathryn Smith, 48, and her son Nicholas Taylor, 19, stood to inherit money from Stephen Schnell, Smith?s boyfriend. According to police, Smith offered an undercover detective several thousand dollars to carry out the hit and refused to back out when given the chance.Smith?s two others sons say their mother has maintained a 20-year relationship with Schnell. They believe his refusal to loan her money may have been a deciding factor in the plot. Smith and Taylor are being held on $250,000 bond.
