The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk is hosting an open house for teachers on Thursday.
The aquarium wants local schools to know that it has recently made some major changes to its education programs.
Education Director Tom Naiman says the aquarium has updated their programs to align with the Common Core and the new Next Generation Science Standards.
Naiman says live animals can inspire kids in many ways. He says the aquarium tries to use the animals to motivate kids not just in science, but in reading, writing and more.
The aquarium is also eager to show off the new Spirit of the Sound. The research vessel will be ready to sail just in time to spot harbor seals that spend winters in the Long Island Sound.
When the weather warms up, the ship will be used to study oceanography and environmental science, as well as for shipwreck tours.
The aquarium is hoping the teachers will help spread the word so the new programs will make a splash.
