The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York announced a proposal that would close three Catholic churches and four schools in the Bronx.
The Archdiocese is proposing to close 15 parishes and 14 schools in and around the metropolitan region as part of a realignment plan. It has also recommended creating five new parishes and changing 16 parishes to missions or chapels.
The parishes that may close in the Bronx are Saint Rita of Cascia, Saint Dominic?s and Saint Mary?s. The Catholic schools that may close include Our Lady of Solace, Saint Anthony?s, Saint Mary Star of the Sea and Saint Martin of Tours.
Each of the affected parishes and schools will have a chance to meet with church officials to discuss the changes. Final decisions concerning the schools will be made by April 24.
