There’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. But have you heard about Artists Sunday?
Photographer Chris Sherman came up with the idea for Artists Sunday a year ago.
“The Sunday after Thanksgiving when I saw a bump in sales of photography on my website. It was a simple brainstorm. There’s nothing going on, so why are people buying my art?” Sherman says.
Sherman says that he wondered if other artists would see sales go up on the Sunday after thanksgiving too, so he put together a free online toolkit to help individual artists and nonprofit market artwork.
But then the pandemic hit and artists were forced to get creative to sell their work.
Sue Kasdon of Atlantic Highlands creates ceramics and block prints - artwork starting at $12. She is among the more than 120 New Jersey artists participating in Artists Sunday hoping holiday shoppers choose a hand-crafted gift this season.
Landscape painter Sharon Hathaway is offering discounts on her artwork. Like most other artists participating nationwide in Artists Sunday, her paintings are at Beacon Fine Art Gallery in Red Bank.
More than 3,000 artists are involved. They are searchable by state or genre on the Artists Sunday website.
