By mid-May the town of Westport plans to have a community garden up and running.
Because the garden is within 400 feet of the Long Lots Elementary School, some town officials say they need to know who the gardeners are. At the last Parks and Recreation Department meeting, the idea of background checks for all members of the gardening during school hours was introduced.
Ann Mill, a member of the gardening club, believes the background checks are a bit much. However, the grandmother of four says she plans to comply with the request.
