Although the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the Thanksgiving tradition just a little bit, it is no less important.
Ernest Dumas and his Basket of Love organization provide food for the less fortunate every Thanksgiving.
“Had a gentleman who came here once and he stood at that door and he started crying. He said he didn’t have a family. I said, 'I am your family,'” recalls Dumas.
This year, instead of a community feast under one room, volunteers brought the food door to door.
“We’re just trying to do our best in our community. Good soldiers, I guess if that’s how you want to put it,” said one volunteer.
Basket of Love will deliver more than 200 meals to different households across Norwalk. They are hoping to do the same thing for Christmas.
