Berry the Red Panda was officially sworn in Thursday morning as the Beardsley Zoo's newest mayor.

She's the zoo's fifth mayor and was elected out of a pool of five animal candidates.

Zoo officials say Barry captured the voters' hearts with her vision of balance, resilience and unity.

"Berry makes all of the really important decisions," said Beardsley Zoo CEO Dr. Jim Wharton. "Berry's my boss, so I'm going to look for her for all of the really important conservation- and snacks-related decisions."
