Bed-Stuy Art House hosts holiday mart with hopes to uplift community

The Just a Dope Holiday Mart transformed the space inside the Bed-Stuy Art House into its first holiday mart.
This popular spot in Brooklyn found a way to help their neighborhood pick up items from their holiday list, while also supporting small businesses.
The mart has everything from cultural art to jewelry and clothing.
The creators of the market say they hope the experience will uplift the community.
"We don't just have gifts that are bought as gifts. These are specialized items and we're really excited about that," said Thysha Shabazz, Communications Manager.
Organizers hope that the Just a Dope Holiday Mart expands into an annual event.
The event runs for two more weeks. The mart will be back Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.
On the final week of the mart, there will be live performances and theatre shows inside the art house that will be open to the entire neighborhood.
