A Darien restaurant, which has been in business in one form or another since the 1930s, is about to shut its doors for good and be replaced by a bank.
Benny Bruno, the owner of Benny?s Bar and Restaurant, says his landlord wants him out by September 1.
Benny?s patrons say they are sad to see the old-time corner bar go.
Lisa Geist, a Benny?s regular, even created a "Save Benny's" page on the popular social networking site Facebook.com. Geist says more than 300 people have joined so far, many of them upset that a piece of Darien's history is being forced to disappear.
"It would be nice if it could stay around longer," Geist says. "It would be nice if we didn't have another bank. It would be nice if just a little piece of Darien could stay Darien."
Bruno says he previously had a deal to move his restaurant to another location in Darien, but that recently fell through. At the present time, he has nowhere else to go.
