A new home for hope.
A nonprofit working to end the homelessness crisis has broken ground on its new $16 million dollar operations center in Milford.
For the past 40 years, the Beth-El Center has served thousands experiencing homelessness, housing instability, and food insecurity.
On Monday, dozens of community members, dignitaries, and advocates showed up to help celebrate the start of a new chapter.
"Today we are not simply breaking ground on a building," Beth-El Executive director Jennifer Paradis says. "We are breaking ground on our chosen collective future."
Paradis says the new center will include 15 permanent supportive housing units, 10 emergency shelter units for families, a large kitchen and dining room, a 24/7 community hub, and more.
"This new operations center is not simply an expansion of services... it's an investment in a different way of responding to homelessness as a service provider and as a dedicated community center," Paradis says. "It is a declaration that the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors are not separate from the needs of our community - they are the needs of our community."
The nonprofit hopes to finish construction and hold a ribbon-cutting by 2028.
